As I watched her sleep, I thought about the life that still awaited her and tried to imagine her grown up. Will she play on the Varsity softball team her senior year? Will she lead worship for her youth group? Where will she go to college? What will she want to be? Who will she marry? The answers to these questions were hard to imagine when all I could picture was this tiny baby. A helpless little person, needing me to feed her, change her, and rock her to sleep.
I can imagine similar thoughts going through Mary's mind as she rocked baby Jesus to sleep each night. But to think that the perfect, but entirely dependent infant sleeping in her arms was the very person of God!
God became a baby.
Leaving the breathtaking wonder of His Father's glory to enter a dark, sin-infested world, Jesus became a baby.
He was a baby!
I can't get over it. Newborn babies can't do anything on their own, not even hold their own head up. And the Almighty King over heaven and earth gave up His glory to become a helpless infant!? That's crazy!
Oh, to grasp how and why it was accomplished...
Love.
