Your Will Be Done

|
I woke up with a smile on my face, prayer in my heart, and butterflies in my stomach. It was my plan to take the driver's test and hopefully get my license this morning. Unfortunately, we forgot that you have to call in ahead of time to set up an appointment. So, my dad called the DMV and made an appointment for the soonest open slot - the 26th of September.

My heart dropped. I had so badly wanted to go and get it today, but now I had to wait for two weeks!

While I'm still dealing with my disappointment, I'm also learning much. It is all summed up in James 4:13-15: "Now listen, you who say, 'Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.' Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, 'If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that.'"

I had a very humbling, eye-opening experience this morning. And I'm very glad for it too. I want to remember how fleeting my life is and how great God is. Based on what I've done, I don't deserve to live this day, but He gives it to me because of what His Son accomplished on the cross. May His will be done in me, whether it means a license or not.
