His Constant Presence

|
The speaker placed the empty chair on the stage for all to see. His voice echoed throughout the sanctuary filtering into the hearts of those seated. "The Lord promised us in the book of Psalms that he would never leave us nor forsake us. Why do we take that promise lightly?"

No one answered. No one dared to breathe under the spotlight which seemed to shine into the darkest corners of their hearts. The speaker went on, "I think I can safely speak for us all. We, as Christians, tend to picture God on a throne...or chair...in Heaven, but we forget that He is present in our daily lives as well. We find ourselves focused on our own worries, activities, and daily lives, that we don't make room for God. If He promised He would be with us, what can make that promise fail? Nothing. Friends, we are not alone when we watch T.V. He is there. We are not alone when we fight within the other room. He is there."

Silence.

"My challenge to you is this: How would you live your life differently if Jesus sat in a chair and watched your every move, heard your every word, and felt your every thought?"

After a moments pause he concluded, "This 'empty' chair is a reminder...God is present."
