I was wandering through the expanse of an open field; I’m certain it must have been in Montana. The sky was velvety and radiant, stretching on endlessly from one end of the world to the other, hanging like a nighttime phantom above me as I walked, and sought to take the entirety of it all into gaze at once. The tranquil hum of the wind filled my ears, followed by the voices of a few who joined me in the field- my brother, and our friends. Having no obligation to anything but the sole enjoyment of the night, we moved aimlessly about the silent place where the summer breeze tossed our hair, and forced the blades of grass to bend over as if in worship. They played at our ankles while we walked, and tried to rob the sky of our attention. But I was fixated on it. The whole of creation enthralled me, and I began to see what I had never seen before…
I tilted my face toward the heavens and watched in wonder as the numerous stars above me meshed into a milky ribbon of dancing light. They began to come together in a brilliant strand, trickling like water down a vertical beam of light that appeared suddenly at my side. And the stars were closer than ever. They gravitated toward the heavenly stream and gracefully fell as musical notes on a page, to where I stood awestruck and mysteriously intrigued. And I began to take greater notice of their detail. I reached out my hand to feel the warmth of the light, and gasped when a star, a single star, fell into the palm of my hand. Its shape was slightly angular, awkward to hold, and yet altogether beautiful. But then I observed something most fascinating: a delicate piece of gold string held a tag in place to this star, and on the tag, inscribed in the fairest and perfect of handwriting, was a name- a name that would belong to a person, and on the other side, a number-13. My curiosity was aroused as I examined the celestial wonder, and my enchantment deepened as I marveled at the writing that gave name and number to the star. So I reached for another. Not to my surprise, it too had a tag. Every one of the dancing lights that fell to the ground was marked with identity, with worth … and I knew then that I was too.
“He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.”
–Psalm 147:4&5

This is a dream I had one night during a time in my life when I didn't feel God very close. I asked Him to remind me He was right there with me and loved me. In answer to my prayer He gave me this dream. I told it to Mandi Elliott and she descriptively wrote it down for me.
